Overview

Each summer since 2004, APNEP has supported a Summer Teacher Institute for educators that focuses on estuarine and water quality education. The specific grade level(s) and goals of the program vary each year and are based on identified needs and gaps in current professional development opportunities for educators in the Albemarle-Pamlico region. The UNC Institute for the Environment is the longtime facilitator of this institute. Both the Teacher Institute and larger ExPLORE NC program show educators how to utilize place- and inquiry-based learning strategies to help students learn about North Carolina's rivers, coasts, and watersheds. Hands-on, place-based and interdisciplinary tools, resources, and experiences are emphasized.

The application period for the 2021 Teacher Institute is now closed.

Visit the UNC Institute for the Environment's website for more information.
