APNEP-Sea Grant Graduate Fellowship in Estuarine Research

Since 2015, APNEP and the North Carolina Sea Grant have jointly funded a graduate student fellowship to conduct applied research within the North Carolina portion of the APNEP management area. Fellows conduct research that addresses focus areas identified in the NC Sea Grant Strategic Plan and management actions from APNEP's Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan.

The 2019 Fellowship is open to graduate students in North Carolina and Virginia for conducting applied research within the North Carolina portion of Albemarle-Pamlico region. The fellow must conduct research that addresses one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Ecology of, and ecosystem services provided by submerged aquatic vegetation.
  • Impacts of harmful algal blooms on ecosystems and human communities.
  • Nutrient/sediment mitigation capacity of riparian buffers and living shorelines.
  • Social science approaches to community resilience.
