Overview

For over two decades, APNEP has supported a collaboration among partners that aims to promote the conservation of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) along the entire coast of North Carolina and southeastern Virginia. Watch this 2019 talk by Team Technical Lead Dr. Jud Kenworthy to learn more about the importance of North Carolina's SAV and read about the SAV Team's past and current work in our Soundings Blog.

Members participating with APNEP’s SAV Team pursue collaborative initiatives aligned with the following APNEP Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) actions:

  • A1.1: Facilitate the mapping of significant ecological, bathymetric, geologic, demographic, and cultural features.
  • A1.3: Develop and refine a regional ecosystem assessment and supporting assessments such as indicator metric reports and syntheses.
  • B1.1: Refine and implement a submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) protection and restoration strategy.
  • B1.3: Protect and restore targeted natural communities, habitats, and ecosystem processes.
  • D1.1: Facilitate the development and implementation of an integrated monitoring network through the guidance of regional monitoring and assessment teams.
