The North Carolina Water Resources Research Institute (WRRI), NC Sea Grant, and the William R. Kenan, Jr. Institute for Engineering, Technology and Science (KIETS) are now accepting proposals for the Community Collaborative Research Grant (CCRG) program for projects to start in May 2027. Funding is available for one-year projects and awards will range between $5,000-$25,000. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on October 26, 2026.
The CCRG program requires a two-person team with a local knowledge expert and a scientific expert. Projects can address a range of water resource and coastal challenges, but are encouraged to address at least one of the following areas:
• Risk communication around natural hazards
• Natural and nature-based solutions to stormwater, stream erosion, flooding, and storm impacts
• STEM education and pedagogical processes
• Regulated and unregulated contaminants
• Water quality of surface and groundwater
• Economic evaluation of ecosystem services
• Fisheries and aquaculture
