Mallory Alman

Seasonal Monitoring Technician

Mallory Alman is a Ph.D. student studying vegetation ecology at UNC-Chapel Hill. In April 2026, Mallory joined APNEP as a seasonal monitoring technician tasked with developing comprehensive vegetation monitoring plans for ecosystems throughout the Core and Currituck Sound watersheds. Mallory offers extensive knowledge in remote sensing techniques, vegetation survey methods, quantitative ecology, and environmental engineering. Prior to beginning graduate school, Mallory worked as a consulting engineer at Timmons Group, where she designed water/wastewater conveyance systems and evaluated potential impacts to their performance. Mallory earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering at NC State and has completed prior research in the fields of biogeochemistry, metagenomics, and hydrology. Her doctoral research aims to map coastal soil salinization using remote sensing techniques and model the responses of coastal forests to shifting disturbance regimes under sea level rise.
