APNEP worked with researchers from the NC State Center for Environmental and Resource Economic Policy and the Duke Sanford School of Public Policy to conduct an economic valuation of SAV in our region. The results will be used to guide decision-making on a local and regional level.

To assist APNEP in our efforts to measure and communicate the societal contributions made by the Albemarle-Pamlico region's natural resources, APNEP contracted with RTI International to conduct an economic valuation of the natural resources of the watershed.
In 2018 APNEP's Ecological Flows Action Team contracted with Dr. Michael O'Driscoll and colleagues of the Coastal Water Resources Center at East Carolina University to identify and collect ecological flow data for the Albemarle-Pamlico region's coastal plain.
APNEP partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, N.C. Division of Water Resources, and N.C. Water Resources to maintain a river monitoring station near Oak City on the Roanoke River during a budget shortfall in 2013-2014.
From 2014-2015 APNEP provided bridge funding for the ModMon project, which has been collecting and analyzing water quality on the Neuse River Estuary since 1994.
In 2018 and 2020 APNEP provided funding to Sound Rivers to initiate a citizen science water quality monitoring program called Swim Guide.
From 2015-2020 APNEP funded DMF's Recreational Water Quality Monitoring Program in the Albemarle-Pamlico region.
While most public and private resources are dedicated to restoring impaired waters, the preservation of high quality waters is one of the most cost-effective ways to lower drinking water costs, provide protection against storms and floods, and maintain habitat for fish and game species. Identification of these pristine waters is a necessary first step in the ultimate preservation of these valuable areas.
APNEP has participated in numerous Scientific Research and Education Network (SciREN) events since 2014, facilitating the dissemination of APNEP-created lesson plans about our estuarine system to educators across the region.
