Career Experiences: I served as a Professor of Urban Forestry at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point from 1973 through 2002 where I developed both an undergraduate and graduate program in urban forestry. The last ten years at the University I was the Forestry Discipline Coordinator (Department Chair). My research interests included urban ecosystem management, open space planning, urban forest modeling, tree biology, and economic evaluations of tree management systems. From 1996 through 2008 I was editor of the research journal “Arboriculture and Urban Forestry” published by the International Society of Arboriculture. Early career activities include being a District Forester for the Florida Forest Service, a teacher in West Virginia, and a forester on the Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon. Since retirement I have been active in consulting, and I’m currently working of the third edition of my textbook “Urban Forestry: Planning and Managing Urban Greenspaces”. Locally I have served as chair of the Oriental Planning Commission and am currently Chair of the Oriental Tree Board. I also spend a lot of time building boats, sailing, kayaking and fishing.
